Godspell originally opening in 1971 and is written by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak. Structured as a series of parables based mostly on the Gospel of Matthew, the writing and music is poetical and infused with both modern music and traditional hymns. First performed by students at Carnegie Mellon University and moved later to La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in Greenwich Village.
