The musical tells the story of Franklin Shepard who has begun to produce Hollywood flicks, but has given up his friendships and songwriting career to do so. The play starts at the height of his Hollywood fame and moves back in time to his life that lead him to the life he leads today. The musical utilizes a chorus that sings reprises of the title song to transition the scenes.
