With humble beginnings, but Without question, they have soared over hurdles as a band to become one of the most inflential bands in rock history. They are a small elite group of musicians whose careers span from the 60's to the present the Moody Blues have earned a reputation for breaking down barriers and setting precedents. They played a key role expanding rock music lyrically and sonically, they have continued to produce music that touches the masses, and survived countless musical trends while maintaining both their integrity and popularity. In short, the Moodies are one of the world's most innovative and successful bands in rock history, with a following compared to the likes of the Grateful Dead. Formed in 1964 in Birmingham, England, this psychadelic/British invasion/progressive/art/album/pop rock band underwent many variations of their line up. Members now include Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Michael Pinder, Ray Thomas, Patrick Moraz, Graeme Edge, Denny Laine, Paul Bliss, and Clint Warwick. The Moody Blues added keyboardist Alan Hewitt for their 2010 North American and UK Tours. The group's first single, "Steal Your Heart Away," released in September of 1964, didn't touch the British charts. Their second single "Go Now," released in November of 1964, fulfilled every expectation and more, reaching number one in England; in America, it peaked at number 10. Following it up was easier said than done. Despite their fledgling songwriting efforts and the access they had to American demos, this version of the Moody Blues never came up with another single success. They did continue to create music innovatively, however, over the years and maintained their large following. The group continues to tour; they toured the US, Canada and the UK in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. In addition, Hayward took part in the UK tour of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds in April 2006, and a second tour in November 2007, also with dates in 2009.
