One of the favorite boy bands is back and touring soon! The crew includes Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Whalberg, and Danny Wood. New Kids on the Block won two American Music awards during their time as a band, and sold 80 million records world wide in the late 80’s and early 90’s for albums like Hangin’ Tough and Step by Step.
In the early 1980’s Maurice Starr and mary Alford sought to create a group much like New Edition, who they had discovered and then broken ties with. After auditioning candidates for the new band in Boston, they were pleasantly surprised by the very talented, Donnie Whalberg, who impressed them with his rapping skills and showmanship. He became the first member of the band followed by his younger brother Mark, and his best friend Danny Wood. He also brought Jordan Knight in, who impressed all with his falsetto singing abilities. His older brother Jonathan was then accepted into the band as well. All but Mark remained in the band, and his replacement was Jaime Kelly, who was soon dismissed for lack of commitment and also replaced with Joey McIntyre. While at first being called Nynuk, they were renamed New Kids on the Block, after a rap song written for their first album.
After disbanding in 1994, they secretly came back together to make The Block, an album made in 2007 and released in 2008. Currently, the guys of The New Kids on the Block are teaming up to tour with another boy band very successful from the mid 90’s to the beginning of the 2000’s, The Backstreet Boys.
