Originally from Indiana University, the line-up of students in these men’s singing groups changes year to year, but the integrity of their sound remains the same if not better! The professional group, Straight No Chaser is composed of former members, mostly original members, of the college group. In 2006, a 1998 video of "The 12 Days of Christmas," gained widespread popularity with the millions of hits on YouTube and led to a five-album record deal with Atlantic Records in 2008. In 1996 (the beginning the 10 students: Dan Ponce (the founder), Randy Stine, Charlie Mechling, Steve Morgan, Jerome Collins, Dave Roberts, Walter Chase, Mike Itkoff, Patrick Hachey, and Kevin Caroll, became Straight No Chaser, inspired by the title track of Thelonious Monk’s album Straight, No Chaser, and of course alludes to the way many American’s order an alcoholic beverage. They debuted at a 36 hour dance marathon and the original members have performed at various pretigious locations like Carnegie Hall, Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park and Navy Pier, and even opened for acts like Lou Rawls.
